Welcome to Europe’s First Model Arab League Conference

The University of Birmingham will be holding Europe’s first Model Arab League taking place in February 2009. This groundbreaking conference will be hosted and organized by the University of Birmingham’s United Nations Association.

The Model Arab League has its roots in the Model United Nations. Students represent member states of the Arab League in councils such as the Joint Defense Council and the Council on Palestinian Affairs. The delegates debate political, social, cultural and economic issues of regional and international significance. This is an ideal setting for developing leadership, communication and diplomatic skills.

Partcipation of the Model will be of value to all students regardless of their academic background. An extensive knowledge of issues pertaining to the Arab world is not a prerequisite for this conference, as students will be given a reasonable amount of time to research their topics. We hope that the chosen delegates will be able to experience the stimulating dynamics of  Arabian diplomacy.

“As representatives of the member states of the Arab League, students attempt to solve problems and achieve consensus on questions diplomats wrestle with on a daily basis.” - 2008 MAL Handbook

This will be the United Kingdom’s first Model Arab League Conference that the University of Birmingham will be organizing, and hence anyone who is interested in partaking in this conference, as a delegate, sponsor, or enthusiastic observer, is encouraged to register for this unique event.
